Book excerpt: Summary of How Not to Die - Discover the Foods Scientifically Proven to Prevent and Reverse Disease - A Comprehensive Summary CHAPTER 1: NOT DYING FROM HEART DISEASE The first chapter of the book is about how not to die from heart disease. Here the author explains one of the most common misconceptions about heart disease. Many people think that heart disease is something as inevitable as old age. However, that is not so true. The author examined the results of studies by Western doctors and experts from Sub-Saharan Africa and came to a radically different conclusion. The doctors in Africa discovered that heart disease practically does not exist in that part of the world. Regardless of the fact that Africa’s medical possibilities are on a lower level than those in America, heart disease practically does not exist there. According to immigration studies, this is not due to genetic reasons. The same thing is discovered in a famous China-Cornell-Oxford Project (or the China Study). What causes the absence of heart conditions and diseases connected with heart and cardiovascular systems is only one thing—diet. After this, the author explains the most common causes for heart diseases. He states that there are three main sources of LDL cholesterol, which then cause medical problems. These are trans-fat, saturated fat and dietary cholesterol. Moreover, the author suggests that if someone wants to be safe from the risk of a heart attack, one should aim for an LDL cholesterol level that is below 70 mg/dl. To be continued... Book excerpt: WHEN THIS DOCTOR TALKS, YOU SHOULD LISTEN. Thousands of people make an early exit each year and arrive on medical examiner Jan Garavaglia’s table. What is particularly sad about this is that many of these deaths could easily have been prevented. Although Dr. Garavaglia, or Dr. G, as she’s known to many, could not tell these individuals how to avoid their fates, we can benefit from her experience and profound insight into the choices we make each day. In How Not to Die, Dr. G acts as a medical detective to identify the often-unintentional ways we harm our bodies, then shows us how to use that information to live better and smarter. She provides startling tips on how to make wise choices so that we don’t have to see her, or someone like her, for a good, long time. • In “Highway to the Morgue,” we learn the one commonsense safety tip that can prevent deadly accidents—and the reason you should never drive with the windows half open • “Code Blue” teaches us how to increase our chances of leaving the hospital alive—and how to insist that everyone caring for you practice the easiest hygiene method around • “Everyday Dangers” informs us why neat freaks live longer—and the best ways to stay safe in a car during a lightning storm Using anecdotes from her cases and a liberal dose of humor, Dr. G gives us her prescription for living a healthier, better, longer life—and unlike many doctors’ orders, this one is surprisingly easy to follow.

Book excerpt: In this totally unforgettable sixth book in the Savage Destiny series, a relentless wave of frontier progress forces itself into the lives of Zeke and Abbie Monroe, threatening their many years of abiding love and forcing a separation unlike any other they have experienced. Zeke joins the Cheyenne in their last effort to hold on to the freedom they knew until the white man invaded their pristine domain and destroyed their game, their hunting grounds, their beautiful innocence. Meet the New Dawn is a keenly powerful and poignant story about the last years of Zeke and Abbie Monroe’s life together, and how their love and their passion for each other lingers on into their twilight years as proof that age and the challenges of life cannot dim the love these two share, a love that causes a man and woman to see each other only as the fifteen-year-old girl who once touched a savage older man’s hand over a campfire, a touch that changed both their lives forever. Get out the Kleenex for this powerful read you will never, ever forget! PRAISE: “Power, passion, tragedy, and triumph are Rosanne Bittner’s hallmarks. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early morning hours of December 31, 2010, Dr. Cornelius H. Evans and his wife received a terrible phone call: their son, Bryant, had been shot and killed. The agonizing days that followed brought Evans face-to-face with the realization that evil had touched his family’s life, sending him on a quest to try to understand the role evil plays in our world. Deeply emotional and heartfelt, Surviving Evil in a Depraved Society offers insight into how Evans dealt with the loss of his son by analyzing the root of violence in America—evil. He examines various theories on evil and its origin, its effects on mankind, and how, according to the Christian belief, evil will remain a part of our society until Christ returns. Evans also challenges ideologies, philosophical beliefs, and theologies on whether one can avoid evil elements. He demonstrates that we can be on our guard against inviting evil into our lives by spiritually guarding ourselves and raising our children with a strong moral foundation. An eye-opening look at the face of evil, Surviving Evil in a Depraved Society offers hope for living in today’s world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dark Mountain Project began with a manifesto published in 2009 by two English writers—Dougald Hine and Paul Kingsnorth—who felt that literature was not responding honestly to the crises of our time. In a world in which the climate is being altered by human activities; in which global ecosystems are being destroyed by the advance of industrial civilisation; and in which the dominant economic and cultural assumptions of the West are visibly crumbling, Dark Mountain asked: where are the writers and the artists? Why are the mainstream cultural forms of our society still behaving as if this were the twentieth century—or even the nineteenth? Dark Mountain’s call for writers, thinkers and artists willing to face the depth of the mess we are in has made it a gathering point for a growing international network. Rooted in place, time and nature, their work finds a home in the pages of the Dark Mountain books, with two new volumes published every year. Walking on Lava brings together the best of the first ten volumes, along with the original manifesto. This collection of essays, fiction, poetry, interviews and artwork introduces The Dark Mountain Project’s groundbreaking work to a wider audience in search of ‘the hope beyond hope, the paths which lead to the unknown world ahead of us.’
